Ahnapee State Trail

More than a century since railroad bells rang and train whistles blew for the first time, quiet has returned to the Kewaunee and Door County countryside. A “rails to trails” conversion has removed the tracks. During spring, summer, and fall, hikers, bikers, walkers, and horseback riders, share the trail. In winter, cross country skiers and snowmobilers whisk across its frosty surface.

The Ahnapee State Trail spans about 44 miles between Kewaunee, Luxemburg, Casco, Algoma and Sturgeon Bay. The 8 to 10 foot trail has a firm limestone surface for hiking, trail bikes and horseback riding. During the winter months, the trail is used primarily by snowmobilers – though cross-country skiing is also permitted.

The trail interconnects with numerous miles of snowmobile trails in Kewaunee and Door County.
