Winter Park Disc Golf History |

In 2003, a group of Kewaunee County disc golf enthusiasts set out to introduce the sport to the county, utilizing the wonderful terrain and features of Winter Park, and expand the park’s summer activity usage. Possible layouts were explored and multiple options were designed. In August 2004 Kewaunee County opened the introductory 11-hole disc golf course. This would provide a good introduction to the sport, and allow time for careful planning, preparation, and construction on the full layout Since that time we have continued to improve the course and look for ways to expand and offer more challenge and variety. The first full season of disc golf in 2005 saw Winter Park alive with disc golfers. In 2006 stone tee pads were added and additional baskets installed temporarily for some fun events and tournaments. In early 2007 upkeep concerns were discussed and options explored prior to completing the course layout. A re-design of the layout occurred to address long grass on the ski hills, and a new course was born. Summer 2007 marked the grand opening of the extremely unique, challenging, and scenic disc golf course at Winter Park. Disc golf is a fun activity for people of all ages. The course is free to play, and a $10 disc is all you need to get started playing. The terrain makes the course challenging, yet the setting provides absolute beauty and breathtaking views of the Kewaunee River Valley. Volunteers and community support continue to provide the life blood for the Winter Park project. Your assistance is appreciated as we work to provide Kewaunee County with a truly outstanding family recreation facility.
